Renewal reminders help you avoid surprise charges. SubLedger sends you an email before each subscription’s billing date so you have time to cancel, adjust, or simply budget for the upcoming charge. By default, reminders go out 7 days in advance — but you can change that lead time to suit how you like to manage your finances.

How reminders work

SubLedger schedules a reminder automatically for every subscription you add. You don’t need to set anything up manually. As long as a subscription has a renewal date, a reminder is on the calendar.
Reminders are sent to the email address associated with your SubLedger account. Make sure your email is current in Account settings.

What the reminder email contains

Each reminder email includes:
  • The subscription name
  • The renewal amount and billing cycle
  • The renewal date
  • A direct link to view or edit the subscription in SubLedger
The email gives you everything you need to decide whether to keep, cancel, or modify the subscription before the charge goes through.

How to adjust your reminder lead time

The default lead time is 7 days before the renewal date. You can change this globally for all subscriptions, or override it for individual subscriptions.

Change the default lead time for all subscriptions

1

Go to Account settings

Click your profile icon in the top-right corner of the dashboard, then select Settings.
2

Open Notifications

Select the Notifications tab in your account settings.
3

Adjust the reminder lead time

Under Renewal reminders, change the Days before renewal value to your preferred number of days. You can set any value from 1 to 30 days.
4

Save

Click Save changes. The new lead time applies to all future reminders.

Override the lead time for a single subscription

1

Open the subscription

From your dashboard, click the subscription you want to adjust.
2

Set a custom reminder

In the detail panel, find Renewal reminder and toggle on Custom reminder. Enter the number of days before the renewal date you’d like to be notified.
3

Save

Click Save. This subscription will use its own lead time instead of your account default.
For annual subscriptions, consider setting a longer lead time — 14 or 30 days — so you have more time to evaluate whether the subscription is still worth renewing before the full yearly charge hits.

Disabling reminders for a subscription

If you don’t want a reminder for a specific subscription, you can turn it off without deleting the subscription.
1

Open the subscription

Click the subscription name from your dashboard.
2

Disable the reminder

In the detail panel, toggle off Renewal reminder.
3

Save

Click Save. SubLedger will no longer send reminder emails for this subscription.
Disabling a reminder doesn’t cancel the subscription — it only stops the notification. You’re still responsible for managing the subscription directly with the provider.
